Statistics for Epoch 241
Estimated number of blocks (Adapools.org) : 6
Block Allocated : 5
Blocks Produced : 5
Luck* : 83%
Blocks Predicted for the Next Epoch: 9
Community-driven stake pools are producing 68% of all blocks we continue the decentralisation process, the remaining 32% produced by federated IOG nodes. Estimated date for complete decentralisation of the Cardano block-chain is late March 2021.
Well we were allocated slightly below what was predicted by AdaPools but made all the blocks allocated.
This epoch we rotated the KES key which needs to be done approximately every 90 days. For those interested here is an explanation of this key…
“Here “KES” stands for Key Evolving Signature, which means that after a certain period, the key will evolve to a new key and discard its old version. This is useful, because it means that even if an attacker compromises the key and gets access to the signing key, he can only use that to sign blocks from now on, but not blocks dating from earlier periods, making it impossible for the attacker to rewrite history.”
It is always important to check the first block you have allocated after doing a change like this to ensure the new key was generated correctly. For us everything went smoothly and the next block was produced without any issues.
It looks like the Mary hard fork is coming in February so that will require a software upgrade to support this. This hard fork will allow the use and generation of native tokens on the Cardano block-chain so is super exciting as this will open up some new use cases and increase use of the block-chain. This year is going to be super exciting in the Cardano ecosystem.
Here is some information about the advantages of native assets over the Ethereum model.
Thanks to all who continue to stake with us and we will be back in 5 days with another short update.
* – Blocks are allocated randomly each epoch based upon total stake a pool has just like a lottery. Luck refers to how many blocks were allocated to a pool against the expected blocks that the pools should produce. Some epochs (5 day periods) you will be allocated more and some less but over time it should even out.
